Making Money on Domain

Without a single doubt, if you really want to make serious money on the internet, you will get at least a domain name. Those who are successful will have more than one main domain. Many owns hundreds of domain names.

Why?? For a starter, there are those that make money simply by buying domain name from the registrar (for $8 each) and then reselling them for a profit at thousands of dollars each. (See page on Domain secrets)

Most of us will register a domain name to put information on the web, be it to sell something, provide info, provide services, make money via adsense, etc. (we will discuss these in more details in future postings)

Today, there are many variations for domain name. We are all familiar with the .com, .net, .biz name. Now, there's a .us, .mobi, .tv, .info, .name, and we have not even touch on countries suffix such as .ca, .uk, .au etc. (By the way, www.GigaCheapDomain.com is offering .info domain name at special price of US$0.99 only and it comes with FREE email accounts too !! Yes, it is not a typo error. Hop over now and see if your name is still available. You can search for free, only pay up if you decides to buy.)

Many people advises that if you are serious in your business, you will buy the "close relatives" of the name as well. Try typing www.nasa.com and then www.nasa.gov
They lead you to 2 very different websites. What if your competitor or some objectionable website makes you a victim with similar tatics?

The solution is to buy them up and forward them all to your main site. This way, you get traffic from those who mis-type your domain name. This will include plurals and obvious hyphen. You can also use different name to point to different landing pages. Try www.GigaCheapDomain.com and www.Giga-Cheap-Domain.com and see what I mean. Although you land on different page, its still in the same business. So, you don't loose the customer.

The question is to what extend should you go? There are the plurals, singular, hyphens, mispelled, etc... You will have to figure out yourself to what extend you want to go. Its a balance between cost and ideal.

That's it for now. Do feel free to share your comments here.

Next posting, we will discuss about domain hosting....
